JCP and L can serve 40% of load with low-cost Ontario power via d-c tie

Plans for a 1200 MW high-voltage direct current interconnection between Ontario Hydro and Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP and L) will replace JCP and L's oil-fired generation or oil-derived purchases. The direct interconnection will travel under Lake Erie by submarine cable. Feasibility studies were made after the Three Mile Island accident to serve the most heavily populated area. The arrangement will provide a bulk market for Ontario Hydro's excess energy. (DCK)
