Lake Erie HVDC Project. Jersey Central (USA), General Public Utilities (USA) and Ontario Hydro (Canada)

Conference · · Minutes Meet. - Pa. Electr. Assoc., Eng. Sect.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5342377
A proposed high voltage DC interconnection between two large North American electric utility systems is described. The interconnection between Ontario Hydro operating in Canada and Jersey Central Power and Light Company operating in the United States will provide initially 1000 megawatts of base load hydroelectric power to Jersey Central and to the GPU system, thus replacing the same amount of oil generated power, and providing substantial economic gain to both systems and savings to their customers. Alternative plans are evaluated, the proposed route across Lake Erie discussed, the transmission system studied and the environmental impact considered.
