Measurement of the differential cross section for pion inverse electroproduction (. pi. /sup -/+p. -->. e/sup +/+e/sup -/+n) at a pion energy E=164 MeV

A study is made of the reaction of inverse pion electroproduction ..pi../sup -/+p..-->..e/sup +/+e/sup -/+n at a pion energy 164 MeV. The principal characteristics of the apparatus are described and also the measurement and analysis procedure, as a result of which approx.100 reaction events were identified. The differential cross section was determined for electrons of energy E/sub 1,2/> or =50 MeV emitted at angles approx.70/sup o/ relative to the direction of the pion beam: d/sup 2/sigma/d..cap omega../sub 1/d..cap omega../sub 2/= (5.1/sup +//sub -//sup 1//sub 1//sup .//sub .//sup 1//sub 4/) x 10/sup -33/cm/sup 2//sr/sup 2/. Distributions of the reaction events in the kinematic variables are presented.
