Cogenerated power sold to distant utility for better rate

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)
OSTI ID:5610208
The local utility in Ware, Massachusetts will wheel cogenerated power from Fibrex Inc. to Northeast Utilities, which offered Fibrex five cents per kWh compared to the Massachusetts Electric Co. offer of 4.2 cents. Fibrex will pay 0.5 cents per kWh transportation fee. Buy-back rates are mandated by the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act, but local utilities are only required to wheel cogenerated power if they do not purchase the power themselves. Some utilities actively seek cogenerators, while others prefer to wheel the power elsewhere. (DCK)
