In May 1967, E.L. Erickson opened the first Smackover production in Alabama at Toxey field. In July 1967, Chesley Pruet discovered Choctaw Ridge field some 4 miles south of Toxey. These 2 discoveries signaled the beginning of a concerted exploration effort in the state of Alabama. As of July 1, 1968, Toxey with 4 wells had produced 100,000 bbl of oil, while Choctaw Ridge with 6 wells had produced 440,000 bbl. In late Sept. 1968, Humble Oil and Refining Co. tested a new Jurassic discovery in the Pollard field of Escambia County, Alabama. This well touched off one of the hottest lease plays of recent years in the SE. states. This report presents an interpretation of the stratigraphic relationships of Jurassic sediments in Alabama and Panhandle Florida. Basic data sources were electric and sample logs of the 70 odd wells which penetrated Jurassic sediments in the study area.
