We report a determination of the multiplicity distribution of ..pi../sup 0/ mesons on the basis of the distributions in the number of recorded ..gamma.. rays for dTa and CTa interactions at 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon. The distributions established for the multiplicity of ..pi../sup 0/ mesons are compared with experimental distributions in the number of ..pi../sup -/ mesons for the same interactions. The average number of ..pi../sup 0/ mesons is obtained as a function of the number of ..pi../sup -/ mesons in dTa and CTa events. The experimental data on the multiplicity of ..pi../sup 0/ mesons are compared with calculations according to the cascade model.
