Petroleos Mexicanos' 1 Ixtoc blowout is still flowing, after 7 months spewing 1200 bbl/day of oil into the Bay of Campeche off Mexico, compared with 30,000 bbl/day at the time of the blowout, 6/3/79. Although much of the oil is mopped up by collector vessels or dispersed with chemicals, an undertermined volume is lost in the bay. Procedures for reducing the flow, firefighter R. Adair's plans to drill through the casing shoe of the blowout, and Sedco Inc.'s lawsuit seeking freedom from liability for the blowout are discussed.
