Flotation activity of chemical compounds of various composition and structure in coal flotation

Journal Article · · Coke Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5584830
An investigation was conducted into the relationships between flotation activity of a reagent and its chemical structure, more specifically its dipole moment. Numerous organic compounds were checked and were ranked in order of increasing flotation activity: naphthene, saturated hydrocarbons, aromatic, unsaturated hydrocarbons, aliphatic acids, esters, ketones, alcohols, alkyl derivatives of 1,3-dioxane. Also studied was the relationsip between flotation activity of reagents and the charge on the surface of the coal. It was concluded the more hydrophilic the surface, the greater should be the localization of the electron density of the chemical compound used as a flotation reagent. Included in the work were three illustrations and one table of data.
