From analysis of experimental data we have obtained quantitative evaluations of the fraction of semidirect processes in the giant dipole resonance of light nuclei (A = 12--40). We used information on the cross sections for the photoproton reaction with production of the final nucleus in various states and on the hole structure of these states from proton-pickup reactions. The semidirect components of the photoproton cross sections were identified. It was established that with increase of the mass number, the fraction of semidirect processes falls off on the average. A strong decrease of the fraction of semidirect processes was observed in odd nuclei in comparison with neighboring even-even nuclei. It is shown that the decrease of the fraction of semidirect processes leads to a broadening of the giant resonance.
