Solar photovoltaics may become one of the biggest growth industries of the late twentieth century. As the article points out, investment strategies and marketing skills are becoming as important to success in the industry as technology advances; government policies are also crucial to progress. Owing to severe reductions in the government's photovoltaics program in recent years, the United States is now in danger of losing its lead in the industry to European and Japanese competitors.
