Computer simulation of the effects of adding the passive solar and energy conserving elements of south facing windows, insulating shades, and thermal mass to a well insulated house indicated that a 30% greater heating performance could be achieved. The design of a passively solar heated house on Block Island, RI, is discussed briefly.
