Passive solar heating for energy conservation of residential dwellings was analyzed for various geographical locations. The most economic configuration is found to be the maximum use of south-facing windows with an appropriately designed permanent structure which exposes the windows to the sun during the winter and keeps the windows in the shade during the summer. A simplified method of analysis was developed, and a passive solar house was designed according to the simplified method. 8 refs.
