Plain talk on the institutional plan: a candid account from two Executive Committee members

When the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) was formed in 1979, a plan was developed by the nuclear utility industry that provided early direction for the Institute. Since that time, INPO's scope has undergone refinement to more clearly reflect the role the Institute has in the industry. In May 1983, an updated plan, the Institutional Plan for the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations, was approved by the Board of Directors. Two members of the Executive Committee of INPO's Board of Directors talk about the Institutional Plan, its purpose and the overall mission of the Institute: representing the board, Hugh Parris, manager of power of the Tennessee Valley Authority, and Al Barker, chairman of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. Barker feels that the formation and execution of INPO has been the biggest single contributor to the viability of nuclear operations in this country.
