The 1983-1992 supply and demand projections by the regional councils of the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) show a 3.2% net annual growth rate and a 2.9% average growth in summer peak demand in the US, with a 3.7 overall growth and 3.6% growth in winter peak demand for Canada. New US generating units show an emphasis on coal (129 units) and oil-to-coal conversions (48 units) over the 60 new nuclear units. Canada has scheduled 14 new coal-fired units, 13 nuclear units and no oil-to-coal conversions. Tables summarize the projections for each of the nine NERC regions. (DCK)
