Regional perspective of the results of INPO accreditation
In August 1983 the Oconee Nuclear Station was the first in the region and the country to receive Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) accreditation for one of its training programs. Coincidentally, in 1983, region II administered its first written requalification examination and began a series of training assessments at the regional facilities. Over the next 3 yr, INPO has accredited more than 65 programs at 15 sites in region II. The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has conducted training assessments at all regional facilities and evaluated requalification programs via written examination at 11 of the operating facilities. This paper presents a preliminary evaluation of these facts in an attempt to assess the affect of INPO accreditation on utility training programs.
