Title: Industrial users urge FERC to raise gas price ceilings

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)

The Process Gas Consumers Group, fearing escalating prices after 1985, is urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to raise price ceilings that will offer incentives for exploration and incentives for reasonable pipeline purchasing practices, but critics see this as backdoor decontrol. FERC has already begun a study to raise wellhead prices two thirds, but it will take months for a final ruling and subsequent court challenges. This is an official request for proceedings to deal with anticipated gas market problems and the disruptions caused by partial decontrol. The consumers stipulate that their request also includes consumer protection. (DCK)
