Hospital`s New Energy Center and cogeneration system cuts costs, conserves energy

Conference ·
OSTI ID:54753
Rising operating costs and rapid growth conditions are affecting most hospitals today. One New York City area hospital addressed both problems by modernizing and centralizing its energy management systems. The new energy center includes centralized boiler system, cogeneration system, central domestic hot water system and steam distribution system. The new energy center centralizes resources to improve steam and domestic hot water system efficiency; reduces operational costs; and generates electricity to reduce utility costs. The hospital, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, will realize yearly energy and operation savings to pay for the new system in four years.
