Covariant description of deuteron electrodisintegration

The present paper is devoted to a covariant description of the ed ..-->.. e'pn exclusive processes in the quasielastic region. Using the covariant-factorization method in the pole approximation, it is shown how to factorize the cross sections exactly including virtuality of the intermediate nucleons and the antiparticle contributions. Convenient formulae for calculation of the cross sections are derived. The effective momentum distribution of nucleons in the deuteron is calculated, taking relativistic effects into account correctly. It is shown that the available experimental data can be explained without recourse to quark and meson degrees of freedom or to isobar configurations of the deuteron.
