A study of the [ital E]/[ital f][sub 1](1420) and of the [ital f][sub 1](1285) in central production

In central production the WA76 experiment, at the CERN Omega Spectrometer, observes the [ital f][sub 1](1285) decaying to [ital K][sup 0][sub [ital s]][ital K][sup [plus minus]][pi][sup [minus plus]], [eta][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]], [pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]], and [rho][sup 0][gamma]. The [ital E]/[ital f][sub 1](1420) is only observed to decay to [ital K]*[ital [bar K]]. A spin-parity analysis of the [ital K][sup 0][sub [ital s]][ital K][sup [plus minus]][pi][sup [minus plus]] system combined with the observation of [ital E]/[ital f][sub 1](1420)[r arrow][ital K][sup 0][sub [ital s]][ital K0][sub [ital s]][pi][sup 0] determines the quantum numbers of the [ital E]/[ital f][sub 1](1420) to be [ital I][sup [ital G]]([ital J][sup [ital PC]])=0[sup +](1[sup ++]).
