Observation of the proton-pairing vibration in /sup 206/Pb

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)

The (/sup 3/He,n) reaction was studied at an incident beam energy of 33.3 MeV for targets of /sup 204/Hg and /sup 204/ /sup 206/ /sup 208/Pb. A 0/sup +/ state at 4.1 +- 0.1 MeV in /sup 206/Pb was excited with 70% of the cross section of the /sup 206/Pb(/sup 3/He,n)/sup 208/Po (ground state) transition. This state lies at the predicted excited energy of the proton-pairing vibration when particle-hole interactions are included.
