The /sup 204/Pb(t,p)/sup 206/Pb reaction was performed at a bombarding energy of 20 MeV. Angular distributions for levels up to 8 MeV of excitation were obtained by using solid-state counters and a magnetic spectrograph. A strong correlation was found between the recorded /sup 206/Pb spectrum and the spectrum observed in the /sup 2O6/Pb(t,p)/sup 208/Pb, /sup 207/Pb(t,p)/sup 209/ Pb,(t,p)/sup 210/Pb reacti ons This correlation provides further support for the existence of multipole pairing quanta. These elementary excitations together with multipole surface modes can then be viewed as the basic building blocks of the spectrum around the closed-shell nucleus /sup 208/Pb.
