Photodecomposition of N/sub 2/O in the spectral region lambda > 155 nm

This paper presents measurements of the spectral dependence of the absolute quantum yield of the formation of N/sub 2/ during photolysis of N/sub 2/O in the region lambda > 155 nm. In the region lambda > 175 nm the quantum yield of N/sub 2/ did not depend on the wavelength of the exciting light and equalled 1.39 + or - 0.08. This permits nitrous oxide to be used as a gas-phase actinometer in the wavelength region 175-210 nm.
