The primary photolysis processes of H/sub 2/O and NO/sub 2/ molecules in the wavelength region of lambda > 155 nm have been investigated. It has been shown that in photolysis of H/sub 2/O the quantum yield of the formation of OH radicals is equal to 1.00 plus or minus 0.05. Upon photoexcitation of the NO/sub 2/ molecule in the region of lambda = 155-190 nm a dissociation into NO + O(/sup 3/P, /sup 1/D) takes place with a probability close to unity. Measurements have been made of the spectral dependences of the absolute quantum yields of the formation of O(/sup 3/P) and O(/sup 1/D) atoms in the photolysis of nitrogen dioxide.
