OSTI ID:5443423

The problem of air pollution is discussed in relation to agricultural crops. Researchers have found air pollution damage in cotton, alfalfa, oats, sudangrass, sugar beets, beans, beets, walnuts, prunes, peaches, apricots, citrus, grapes, and plums. Symptoms of plant damage can vary with the age of the tissue, environmental conditions, plant species, length of exposure, and concentration of the toxicant. The characteristic symptoms caused by ozone, peroxyacetyl nitrate, fluorides, sulfur dioxide, and ethylene are described.
