See intrastate prices up in 1985 gas shift

Deregulated prices for intrastate natural gas are expected to be so high by 1985 that alternative fuels will be competitive and gas supplies will shift to the interstate market. The consequences for users will be sizable as industrial users switch to other fuels and increase the costs for commercial users, according to a DOE analysis. DOE estimates that incremental-pricing regulations will increase market disorders and suggests alternatives that would link user-gas costs to deregulated wellhead prices or would reflect replacement costs. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission claims this would increase gas costs for industrial users. The DOE report largely ignores the more-sensitive issues of expanded incremental pricing and alternative fuels in spite of evidence presented by users are numerous hearings. (DCK)
