A brief outline is given of Dow Corning's new $35 million wood-burning cogneration facility at the company's Midland, Michigan, plant. The power plant is capable of generating 22.4 megawatts of electricity and 275,000 lb/hour of process steam. The growth of wood-produced energy in recent years in the U.S. is noted and the technological advances which have made it possible by reducing the difficulty and cost of harvesting wood e.g. the feller/buncher, the grapple/skidder and the chippers.
