Energy dependence of fissionability for /sup 239/Pu, /sup 238/Pu, and /sup 241/Am

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)
Excitation-function data have been analyzed for the reactions (/sup 4/He, xn) with targets /sup 233/ /sup 234/ /sup 235/U and /sup 237/Np. Values of the neutron emission probability G/sub n/ have been extracted by comparing reaction couples (4n--3n), (3n--2n), and (2n--1n) leading to the same final products. The values of G/sub n/ for /sup 238/Pu vary from 0.3 at 12 MeV to 0.1 at 20 MeV to 0.5 at 35 MeV. Similar trends are found for /sup 239/Pu and /sup 241/Am. Statistical-model calculations give a similar but weaker trend.
