A study was made of the relationship between stationary concentrations of biomass and substrate in the chemostat and the rate of dilution when the growth of Candida utilis was limited by copper ions. On account of the difference between the theoretical data (Pirt, 1972) and these experimental results, one might suggest that the inhibition constant (K/sub i/) changes in relation to the rate of flow. The nature of this relationship is proposed.
