Incremental pricing will be extended to include most industrial natural gas users and the price will be pegged to that of No. 6 high-sulfur residual fuel oil. This latest ruling by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which may raise gas prices as much as 60 cents per thousand cubic feet (mcf), applies to all industrial users not exempted by law who use over 300 mcf of gas a day. Either House of Congress can veto the ruling before the May 9, 1980 deadline and the incremental pricing program will have a FERC review in 1983. Incremental pricing is intended to stabilize the gas market before the 1985 price decontrol takes effect. (DCK)
