EMC effect and multiquark bags in nuclei
The description of the form factors of light nuclei at large momentum transfers and the structure functions for the deep inelastic scattering of leptons on nuclei is discussed within the framework of the hypothesis that an admixture of 9q and 12q clusters (bags) is present in nuclei. It is shown that a unified description of the available experimental data can be obtained assuming a universal momentum distribution for the quarks in multiquark clusters with the high-momentum component falling off exponentially psi/sup 2//sub q/(k)approx.exp(-k/k/sub 0/) for k>>k/sub 0/, k/sub 0/ = 50--60 MeV/c. Then the EMC effect is manifested as a softer momentum distribution of the quarks in the bag component compared to the nucleon component.
