Computer vision applications frequently require very high computation rates for both low-level image processing and object identification stages which can only be achieved with a parallel computer organization. Multicluster is a general MIMD framework for high-speed parallel computation. A system within this framework consists of a set of computational modules called clusters; each cluster contains one or more 32-bit microprocessors, high-speed arithmetic support, local memory, and an intercluster interface. The processor interconnection scheme will involve a hierarchy of at least two levels: the intracluster network which will be determined by technology considerations, and the intercluster network which will be based more on algorithm and general architecture considerations. 7 references.
