Synthesis of BN using BPO/sub 4/ as the boron source

Journal Article · · J. Am. Ceram. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5336534
The reaction of BPO/sub 4/ with different amounts of NaCN to yield BN and sodium phosphates was studied, mainly as a function of temperature and of the ratio NaCN/BPO/sub 4/. Gravimetric data, together with analytical results, allowed the authors to postulate and confirm that the yield of reaction products is dependent on the initial ratio NaCN/PBO/sub 4/. An additional reaction between NaCN, BPO/sub 4/, and Na/sub 3/PO/sub 4/ yielding BN was also studied.
