Equipment update to meet extra steam load pays extra dividend

By extensive modification of two Kongsberg gas turbines, and installation of new fired heat recovery boilers, ICI Pharmaceuticals has been able to meet an increased steam demand entirely from a combined heat and power (CHP) system in their plant at Macclesfield, England. With fuel supplementary firing the new boilers produce as much steam as three existing gas fired boilers - now used for peak sharing and standby duty. The operation of the CHP system is described.
