This volume documents how the estimates of energy consumption in agriculture were derived. The sector accounts for about 2 percent of U.S. energy consumption (about 1/sup 1///sub 2/ quads). Three-fourths of this is used in crop production; the remainder mostly for livestock production. Forestry and fishing account for a relatively small share. The primary fuels used are diesel and gasoline, followed by natural gas and LPG. (MCW)
