This report documents how estimates of energy consumption in construction were derived. This sector accounts for about 2/sup 1///sub 2/% of the nation's energy consumption. Asphalt pavement accounts for one-half of this; gasoline for construction vehicles and machine drive uses one-third; and diesel fuel, lubricants, and electricity make up the majority of the remainder. Regional patterns of energy consumption in this sector correspond to population patterns. (MCW)
