Reduced fuel use in midwest sparks moves to lower prices

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)
OSTI ID:5271665
The third in a series of articles dealing with the effect of energy prices and supplies during the recession covers the Midwest, where industrial demand has fallen sharply. Some gas and electric utilities have responded to the loss of large customers with an effort to lower rates, although this is still in the hearing stage. Most utilities, however, report an increase in user costs, with gas prices rising more rapidly than electricity prices. Although the price of No. 6 fuel oil will probably remain stable, suppliers have not seen major fuel switching by industries. Steam coal prices rose slightly, but demand has softened. (DCK)
