Exxon Donor Solvent Coal Liquefaction Process: ECLP operating experience III

Conference · · Proc., Am. Pet. Inst., Refin. Dep.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5263185

The Exxon Coal Liquefaction Pilot Plant (ECLP) began operations in June 1980; through March 16, 1982, the plant had operated with coal-in for over 8000 hours, an overall coal-in factor of 53 percent. The plant has processed Illinois bituminous and Wyoming subbituminous coals in both once-through and bottoms recycle modes. This report presents the results of these recycle operations. Almost all equipment problems and some process concerns that evolved in earlier operations have been resolved. Successful completion of the Illinois bottoms recycle runs generated sufficient data to provide design information for the liquefaction section of a commercial-size plant using this coal. The plant will shift to Texas lignite for a 4-month run period beginning in mid-May 1982. Afterwards, the Exxon Donor Solvent (EDS) test program at ECLP will end following plant inspection and evaluation of data.
