Radiative annihilation of K/sup -/p atoms and the. lambda. (1405)

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)
The radiative annihilations of K/sup -/p atoms to ..lambda gamma.. and ..sigma../sup 0/..gamma.. are shown to be dominated by the ..lambda..(1405) hyperon. These processes thus provide a sensitive probe of the properties of this controversial state. We show that present data on the ..lambda gamma.. branching ratio are in agreement with its interpretation as a normal quark-model state, and that further information on the ..lambda gamma.. and the comparably strong ..sigma../sup 0/..gamma.. channel will provide compelling tests of the viability of this versus the K-barN bound-state interpretation.
