Microbial oxidation of hydrocarbons

Monooxygenases oxidize alkanes, alkenes and aromatic compounds to their alcohols, acids, epoxides and oxygenated aromatic compounds. How the biological system carries out eh oxidation chemistry of these reactions has been a focus of research for several decades. In this paper, four monooxygenase systems which catalyze the epoxidation of alkenes are discussed at enzyme level.
