A comparative study of alkane, alkene, alcohol, and aromatics oxidation using ozone was carried out on a series of metal oxides. Ozone was found to react with hydrocarbons at much lower temperature compared to oxygen. An in-situ Raman spectroscopic technique was used to study the catalyst as well as the adsorbed intermediate species. The mechanism of ozone reaction on catalyst surfaces is discussed.
