Experimental determination of the extent of movement of the coke cake from the oven wall during the coking of preheated charges

Industrial and pilot plant scale experiments were conducted to determine the movement of coke cake away from the oven wall during coking of a preheated charge and to investigate the effects of various factors on this movement. Results show that coking of preheated charges produces movement which is 18-20% greater than when coking moist charges; movement of the cake begins long before merging of the plastic layers and the beginning and magnitude of movement depend on the hydraulic state of the coking charge.
