Influence of DNA repair and replication inhibitors on incorporation of 2-/sup 14/C-thymidine in pea root DNA following exposure to gamma radiation

A study was made of distinctions of DNA synthesis in ..gamma..-irradiated pea roots in the post-radiation period. It was found that there is additional DNA synthesis in the roots 24 h after irradiation. Use of inhibitors of replicative (hydroxyurea and mitomycin C) and repair (caffeine, acriflavine) synthesis of DNA, as well as postradiation incubation without saccharose in the nutrient medium, revealed that the observed additional DNA synthesis is due to both repair and replicative synthesis of DNA.
