Three-particle decays of /sup 6/Be and /sup 6/He nuclei and the. cap alpha. -particle and nucleon energy spectra

It is shown that knowledge of the energy spectrum of the particle A produced in the three-particle decay X..-->..A+B+C of the unstable particle X makes it possible in a number of cases to obtain fairly full information about the spectra and angular correlations of the other two particles. For this purpose the decay amplitude is represented in the form of an expansion in terms of hyperspherical harmonics. The proposed formalism is used to study the energy spectra of the ..cap alpha.. particles and nucleons emitted in the decay of the 0/sup +/ and 2/sup +/ states of the /sup 6/Be nucleus and the 2/sup +/ state of the /sup 6/He nucleus. Allowance for the first few terms of the expansion of the amplitude leads to a good description of the ..cap alpha..-particle spectra and makes possible the prediction of the spectra of the nucleons emitted in the decay of the corresponding nuclei
