Cellular arrays of processors are suitable for implementing algorithms that have a substantial amount of inherent parallelism. This paper describes an automatically reconfigurable cellcular architecture, in which the hardware resources can be automatically reconfigured at the request of the user or the operating system to best match the algorithm to be executed. The control function is distributed throughout the cellular structure, instead of having a master control which otherwise constitute a hard core.
