The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) proposes revisions to its Standard 90, the basis for many municipal building codes, to take effect in 1987. The revised standard includes mandated energy efficiency ratings and partial load efficiency ratings for building systems. Manufacturers warn that compliance will likely raise prices for conservation equipment. The revision also limits building lighting and requires both manual and automatic controls. The lighting industry argues that design engineers may not be able to meet the new standards. ASHRAE will accept public comment until mid-September.
