Beginning in 1982, Saudi Arabia will send 50 million tons/yr of crude oil through the Suez-Mediterranean pipeline, according to a communication from A. Taher (Petromin) to the Sumed pipeline management. The capacity of the line will therefore be increased during 1978-82 from 80 million to 120 million tons/yr, and another pump station is to be constructed. The increase in the capacity of the Sumed pipeline will take place simultaneously with the construction of a pipeline from the Abqaiq-Ghawar oilfield to the Red Sea.
