Estimated proven reserves of crude in Saudi Arabia at the end of 1964 totaled 59.2 thousand million bbl, a gross increase of 2,000 million over the previous year. The past few months have also seen the increase of new concessionaire companies into Saudi Arabia for the first time since the original Aramco concession was awarded to California Arabian Standard Oil Co. in Nov. 1933. The most important event in operational activity last year was the expansion of Aramco's Ghawar Field. This involved an increase of 125,000 bpd. Total productive capacity of the combined Ghawar Field is now over 850,000 bpd. At Abqaiq, the second largest producing field, a major water-injection system is nearing completion. Nineteen injection wells have been drilled around the field, and the system will be capable of injecting 700,000 bpd of nonportable water when in full operation. Gas injection is also continuing on Abqaiq at a rate of 154,921,000 cfd.
