Massive petroline project of Petromin is under way in Saudi Arabia
A discussion of the project to transport 1.85-2.35 million bbl/day crude oil from the Ghawar oilfields to Yanbu, Saudi Arabia covers the pipeline construction responsibilities of Saipem S.p.A. and a joint venture of Contracting and Trading Co. (Lebanon) and Sedco Construction Division (Houston) and details of the pipes (API 5LX Grade X-65, double jointed and electrostatically coated with epoxy powder) and block valves to be used and the various facilities to be installed (pump stations, dry type air cooling facilities, pressure reducing and maintenance centers, Yanbu onshore terminal, crude oil storage tanks, the offshore terminal under construction by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to load 1.6 million bbl/day into 50,000-500,000 dwt tankers), the terrain encountered along the route of the C.A.T./Houston western section of the pipeline, and the welding procedures used.
