Public Power costs less: residential rates averaged 29. 7% below IOUs

Journal Article · · Public Power; (United States)

The latest figures show that the rates of consumer-owned electric utilities continue to be significantly lower than those of investor-owned utilities (IOUs). Energy Information Administration comparative statistics from 1946 consistently rank public power as less costly. The reason for this is higher expenses on the part of the IOUs for both managerial and operating costs. Public costs are higher in 1984 only for transmission expenses. 1 figure, 4 tables.
