Spectroscopic strength of 1f/sub 7/2/ transitions deduced from the /sup 51/V(e,e'p)/sup 50/Ti reaction

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)
The spectral function for the knockout of 1f protons from /sup 51/V leading to the (1f/sub 7/2/)/sup 2/ quadruplet in /sup 50/Ti has been measured in a high-resolution (e,e'p) experiment. In the distorted-wave impulse approximation the 1f spectroscopic strength observed in the 0/sup +/,2/sup +/,4/sup +/,6/sup +/ quadruplet of /sup 50/Ti is 1.11(14). This is considerably lower than predicted by shell-model calculations. In addition the rms radius of the 1f/sub 7/2/ orbit, 4.20(14) fm, is deduced. With this rms radius recent /sup 51/V(d, /sup 3/He)/sup 50/Ti data yield a similar low value of the 1f strength.
